and i would rather
            lie to myself
            -than to you
(and sometimes that line becomes gray, though)
where i end and you begin
            (and marginal and liminal)
and
::search for answers elusive as this night::
            -something (as dark and vague)
            (as jumbled and worn)
            (as lost and alone)
and so i YIELD
-and try to become so intoxicated by
(The Forgetting)
            -the high of it all
            -and the rush
            -and the burn
(of the shining star trapped
::born::
            inside) where
(The Pleasure)
            ::mingles::
and becomes
(The Pain)
            (like you and me)
and that gray line
-where you and me becomes we
and us
and that gray line

(:and that gray line:) . . .

the ash of your voice
            hides its own embers
(Searing White Pain)
(Tearing Black Pleasure)
::watch that wispy waver of smoke::

            -oh, no (the hurt)
            -come on
            -but you
            -really, i can't
(and yet always)

please ::burn:: me again
(i need another dark line on my arm)

surely there are struggles that you bury behind those fiine cheekbones of yours, too . . .

in actuality the title is intended to be [scars]

[original dated 12.1.03]

Daily Deviation

Given 2005-12-10

scars by ~Real-rabbit has three distinct voices which all weave around each other to create a climbing, absorbing feeling like being lifted off the ground, until almost the end, when the author throws everyone back down to reality. It's a powerful poem that reveals, almost off-handedly, the emotions we experience in relationships. (Suggested by ~karmapolice033 and Featured by `imperfect)

why has no one commented on this!?!?!

powerful poem.....your unusual use of punctuation to frame things is so unique and creative. the pain/pleasure theme = awesome.

I'm such a nerd....i never say anything bad about your works...i just can't!
:iconreal-rabbit:
thanks :) i was really having a hard time initially capturing this

well . . . i'm a nerd, too . . . that's not too bad though, is it? ;)

actually, i believe that being a nerd is the best thing one can be...although i might be a little biased. But hey....at least we can admit that we're nerds!!!!!! :)
:iconreal-rabbit:
hehe i would agree completely with you . . . but as you pointed out . . . i suppose i would also be considered "biased" ;)

I think this topic has been done so much, and so poorly so many times. This poem however is alright, the best poem about self inflicting pain i've ever read. The rampant punctuation throws me off a lot as well. But, you have done a pretty good job with such a cliche topic.

"The ending is brilliant. Seriously. I might get that inscribed on my casket someday so God will understand."
:icondesignerfreak:
this is a beautifully written poem, the DD was well deserved, and I've felt like that so many times... it's so refreshing to be able to relate to something :)
:iconsurrealist-madman:
I cannot see how this work warrants a place in the daily deviation section. It is extensively "postmodern" to the state of it not being effective, perhaps this is a matter of personal taste, as I find it overtly sentimental and a "used" idea.
On a positive note, a good attempt at breaking boundaries.

(haha I don't however think my poetry is any better) :D

This topic is familiar, but I love your use of structure and punctuation. It lies nicely on the "page." Congrats on the DD.
